summer dresses

I don't have nearly enough dresses (skirts are another story). I decided that this will be the summer that I get some decent everyday dresses that fit me and find reasons to wear them. I just got this vintage one on ebay and I am in LOVE.

Notice that I said 'get' some dresses and not sew dresses? I know how I am. If I try to sew summer dresses then they won't be done until dead winter a year from now. Besides, they just don't make 'em like this anymore.

vintage photo friday

This is a picture of my dad when he served in Korea back in the 50's.

Dad

Today is his birthday. He would have been 80!

If you have a dad or know any dads, give them a call. :)

These are the parents of Bert and Archie.

So serious! IMG_5886 All of these photos must have belonged to Ella, also known as E.K.P. Here's another picture of papa- 'My father as a young man- around 1830+' IMG_5887 IMG_5889

the milk jug garden

This milk jug irrigation thing is really working out! Thank you, Freecycle.

Milk jug garden

The tomatoes are coming right along.

Tomatoes

Then there are the green beans!!! I know it's just a little garden but I am pretty happy about growing my own green beans.

Green beans!!!

I'm hopeful that there will be plenty to go around. So far the foxes, deer, birds and squirrels haven't caught on like they did with the cherry tree and the roses. Our local nursery is accepting produce donations (even small ones) to bring to the local crisis center. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

curbside find

I will absolutely bring home perfectly good stuff I find on the street. This lovely Dokka Møbler chair happened to have a free sign on it. I was happy to give it a new home.

A little work and it will be good as new.

Have you ever brought home furniture you found on the street? How about clothes or books or anything else? Do tell!

This is Bert's brother Archie, aka Uncle Archie.

IMG_5848

I take it he is the younger of the two.

IMG_5856

I imagine Archie was always in Berts shadow, being the little brother. Of course Archie did grow up to have the better walrus moustache. Always competing, that Archie.

Thanks to Paper Dolls for Boys for letting me play along! Check it out here for links to the other players and more vintage photo goodness (and how you can get in on the vintage photo action).

For my first VPF I give you Bert aka Uncle Bert aka My Brother Albert.

IMG_5766

Isn't he dapper?

I don't know who Bert is but I found his photo in a box at a roadside sale in Bodega, CA. I knew I needed to bring Uncle Bert home with me when I saw this:

IMG_5783

Yes, it's Bert again! This one says 'My brother Bert-Albert-14-' on the back & has the initials E.K.P.

I imagine that Bert has an interesting story to tell. I just don't know what it is. What do you think?
