get your smokey on!

When I was a kid (2nd grade?) I signed the pledge and became and official Junior Forest Ranger for Smokey Bear. I still have my signed pledge, autographed picture of Smokey, song sheet (yeah, Smokey has an official song) and memebership card (I lost my badge, though). I took my responsibilities very seriously (still do) and probably annoyed the heck out of all the adult smokers around me. ;)

To this day, I'm a big fan of Smokey. On a recent thrift store excursion I found two fabulous curtain panels featuring my favorite bear! These are the curtains I would have loved to have had back in the 70's, but it's never too late, is it? Getting ready to move soon, and I think these will look great in the craft room.

They say people look like their pets. I'm here to tell you it's true. I recently spied these two blonde beauties in San Francisco.

I guess that makes me one of those weird people who walks around taking pictures of strangers. Guilty as charged!

Now with more kitsch!

Oops! Have I really been away that long? I guess I could say I've been busy, and that would be mostly true. I promise to make it up to you. ;)

Guess I'll start by posting some recent thrift SCORES! I was thrilled to find all of this gorgeous kitsch in one thrift store and splurged (I think they were $1.99 each?).

This first item is a souvenir shot glass caddy. Your shot glass will never go missing again with this handy and decorative device.

I also found the world's most disturbing ashtray. Souvenir of the 'World Famous' Tree House, Redwood Hwy. California. I don't smoke, but does that really matter?

Fuzzy baby deer pen caddy. 'Nuff said.

Best of all, I am pleased to announce that all of this beauty got me the coveted Cerifikitsch of Authenkitschity from the Allee Willis Museum of Kitsch & a spot in the permanent collection! You'll also find my old pal Spoony Squirrel over there, too.

In local news- a two headed boa was recently born in a Bay Area reptile shop.

That's right- it has two faces.

 

I haven't been able to find out too much about this, but you can find more information on Roadside America including some words from the daughter of the man responsible. She disagrees and says that the lamb(s?) lived for a short while.

 

This sort of thing happens more often than you might think.

Our state birds dropped by just last week for an informal visit. I can't wait 'til they bring the kids.

I hope this isn't cheating, but this was actually growing in a neighbor's front yard. The color was so pretty I had to include it here. Mother Nature gets it right every time.

possible career option?

Sorry I haven't updated for a bit. Between setting up a new place and allegedly looking for a new job there hasn't been much to show or tell. I've been sprucing up the ol' resume and starting to put it out there, so hopefully something will come through soon. Of course, one should always have a Plan B just in case. I'm thinking FASHION DESIGNER FOR MULES!
