I recently 'met' Zootsuitmama (or rather found her cool blog) and she wants to see kitchens! Definitely check out the comments and see some of her reader's retro kitchens, they are to die for. :)
Right now our kitchen is definitely NOT show off worthy. Some day, some day I will have a place for all my treasures but until then I'll just have to be inspired by all the other pretty kitchens out there.
I might as well be brutally honest and show you my 'dream kitchen' in its raw state. Holy cats! It's awful! I will admit, I kinda like the wood grain dishwasher, though.
Not exactly the bright and gay kitchen of my dreams- yet!
Until then I'll just have to amuse myself with my kitchen treasures (the ones that aren't still packed up in boxes, that is).
Wives who cook and do the dishes should be granted these three wishes: a grateful mate...a well-kissed cheek...a restaurant dinner every week! Tell it, sister!
These little pitchers also belonged to grandma. Do you remember those little toy canisters that make animal sounds when you turn them upside down? I was told that the cow pitcher used to have one, so when you poured the cream or milk it would say moooooooooooooo. Maybe I should get one!
Not grandma's but here are some more salt and pepper shakers (thrifted). I couldn't resist.
I also thrifted this sweet scale last week! Maybe I can use it for shipping when I finally get around to opening up the etsy shop again.
That's it for the kitchen for now, but if you liked that then wait 'til I tell you about the DINING ROOM!
(All of the images below are from Allee's Kitsch of the Day blog. These fabulous pieces of kitsch don't actually belong to me- only in my dreams!)
During the entire week a new "What Is Kitsch?" video will be posted each and every day on YouTube. I don't know about you, but this is right up my alley! I loves the kitsch. I would tell you that my middle name is Kitsch, but that would be lying because it's Renee.
If you live near L.A., be sure to check out the festivities! If only I loved closer, I would be there myself. Did I mention it's KITSCH?!?
During the course of an action-packed week at the newly relocated Ghettogloss art gallery on Melrose in Los Angeles, Allee will be displaying hundreds of amazing artifacts from her rarely-seen-in-person kitsch collection and will frequently be on hand greeting visitors and discussing the Allee Willis Museum of kitsch. Allee's grand kitsch exhibition will feature two fabulous AWMoK launch parties (on Monday, Sept. 14th and Monday, Sept. 21st); the debut of her delightful "What Is Kitsch?" short film series; Allee's unveiling of her featured "Kitsch O' The Day" blog item live at noon daily in the gallery's front window on L.A.'s ever-popular Melrose Avenue; her usual megaton of scrumptious junk food; specially created gourmet treats from L.A.'s hottest new restaurant, Susan Feniger's Street, of which Allee is part owner; live auctions of spectacular kitsch masterpieces hand-picked by Allee herself; a first-time-ever public raffle to win a guided tour of Allee's exclusively private Willis Wonderland; a not-to-be-missed karaoke sing-off of Allee's classic Earth Wind & Fire hit, "September," at the party on the night of the 21st ("Do you remember...the 21st night of September...?"); plus many more kitschy surprises for those lucky enough to be there.
I’ve been tagged by the super-swell Darling Petunia. I'm sorry I didn't get around to it sooner, but I've been under the weather. I'm back in action, so thanks for tagging me, darlin’. I’ll do my best.
Here are the rules: I answer 6 questions about myself. At the end of the post, I tag 6 people and post their names. I then go to their blogs and leave them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read my blog. Finally, I let the person who tagged me know when I’ve posted my answers.
What was I doing ten years ago?
I was working as an associate teacher/substitute at a center for education & behavioral development AKA a school for special education. I was living in beautiful Oakland, CA.
Five things on my to-do list for today?
It’s already evening, so I will say:
Drink a beer
Go in the garage and work on my bird feeder. Yes, I am building a bird feeder. You wanna make something of it?
Make a pizza
Watch some cartoons. Right now I am watching B&W Fleischer cartoons esp. old skool Popeye!
Maybe have another beer while I watch those cartoons.
Snacks I like?
NACHOS. Anytime, anywhere.
Notice how I didn’t say carrot sticks?
Things I would do if I were a billionaire?
Take a nap. Quit my job and volunteer more. Pay my bills. Pay the bills of those closest to me. Donate generously. Take another nap. Super nachos for everybody. Build a school. I would also pimp my ride.
Places I have lived?
SF Bay Area, California
Switzerland for three whole months when I was a teenage foreign exchange student. Wow. I am so exotic.
