fabulous palm springs!

Back from a much needed vacation & ready to post some pictures of fabulous sunny Palm Springs! First stop is the Visitor's Center-

These are just some shots from around the neighborhood where we stayed. The lovely buildings and scenery were just killing me!

 

 

As you probably already know, Sonny Bono (singer, actor, politician, Salton Sea champion) was once the mayor of Palm Springs.

This shop window was a sweet tribute.

And Sonny Bono wasn't the only bronze celebrity I spotted. No, I'm not talking about George Hamilton!

more thrift scores

Wow...it's been a while. Between working on the house, work in general and everything else...wow.

Here are some recent thrifty scores from the flea market, thrift store and rummage sale (in no particular order).

I spotted this tucked away in the corner of an antique/junk shop. Very classy.

I love lamp

No, this isn't my lamp but I wish it were..!

LITTLE THRIFT SHOP OF HORRORS

These three photos were all taken today at the same thrift shop. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a THREE WAY TIE for worst thrift shop item(s) of the year!

First up we have ancient half-used Avon products. If you have sweaty feet and ashy skin, Thrift Center has the solution.

Then there's FIDO-SHOCK. No good can come of this.

What can I say about this little display (which I set up, of course)? Between the ruined cannister and the TOXIC MOLD, I am speechess. TOXIC MOLD, PEOPLE!!!

BTW, inside the cannister was another cannister marked "corn meal". I was hoping there would be some bread crumbs inside, but no such luck.

retro weekend

Best weekend in a long time. Worked on Saturday but then headed out to the open studios and toured Bradbury & Bradbury Art Wallpapers in Benicia, CA. Just gorgeous stuff- the photos online don't do the wallpaper any justice!

These wallpapers are silk screened by hand and the quality is really amazing. We think the one on the right will look great in the kitchen...someday.

Also hit up the flea market (Sunday) and saw some really great stuff, although I was frugal and only came home with a bottle opener, a postcard and a magazine rack. These are some of the things I didn't buy-

Unfortunately I don't have a time machine BUT this company is making some pretty snazzy wallpaper right now!

kitschen

I recently 'met' Zootsuitmama (or rather found her cool blog) and she wants to see kitchens! Definitely check out the comments and see some of her reader's retro kitchens, they are to die for. :)

Right now our kitchen is definitely NOT show off worthy. Some day, some day I will have a place for all my treasures but until then I'll just have to be inspired by all the other pretty kitchens out there.

I might as well be brutally honest and show you my 'dream kitchen' in its raw state. Holy cats! It's awful! I will admit, I kinda like the wood grain dishwasher, though.

Not exactly the bright and gay kitchen of my dreams- yet!

Until then I'll just have to amuse myself with my kitchen treasures (the ones that aren't still packed up in boxes, that is).

Wives who cook and do the dishes should be granted these three wishes: a grateful mate...a well-kissed cheek...a restaurant dinner every week! Tell it, sister!

A new kitchen clock-

Grandma's salt and pepper shakers-

These little pitchers also belonged to grandma. Do you remember those little toy canisters that make animal sounds when you turn them upside down? I was told that the cow pitcher used to have one, so when you poured the cream or milk it would say moooooooooooooo. Maybe I should get one!

 

Not grandma's but here are some more salt and pepper shakers (thrifted). I couldn't resist.

 

I also thrifted this sweet scale last week! Maybe I can use it for shipping when I finally get around to opening up the etsy shop again.

1964 house

I haven't posted in a while...there's so much going on, including a new house! Well really, it's a 1964 diamond in the rough but it's ours. Some of the features include-

Fabulous amber "bottle bottom" glass-

A vintage oven that probably hasn't been cleaned since 1964-

Probably an accident waiting to happen...

It's going to have to go, but why not take a few pictures first?

This didn't come with the house, but I found it at a recent garage sale for the whopping price of $1.60! LOVE. The lady asked $2 for it, but I talked her down, ha ha!
